Sarah Wouk (nee Betty Brown), president of the BSW Literary Agency, Inc. and wife of the author Herman Wouk, died March 17th in Palm Springs, CA, following a stroke suffered at home several days before. She was 90 years old. Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons, Nathaniel and Joseph, and three grandchildren.

A service was held at Plaza Jewish Community Chapel in New York City, followed by interment at Beth David Cemetary in Elmont.

Born in Grangeville, Idaho, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from USC, and was a civilian personnel officer with the U.S. Navy during World War II. She met her future husband while his ship was being overhauled at the San Pedro Navy Yard in California, and they were married less than a week after he returned from the sea at the war's end. In the following years the couple lived in New York, the Virgin Islands and Washington, DC, before moving to California, where they have resided in Palm Springs for 28 years. In 1979, she established the agency and became her husband's literary agent.

May God comfort Sarah's family, just as the mourners who sat at the Gates of Zion and Jerusalem found comfort in days of old. May the chain of memory and community never be broken. Amen.
